Homeless, Hopeless And Sick of Praying

Dear Joshua: I have believed in God my entire life, and have been, for the most part, what society would consider a “good person.”  In spite of that, I’m out of work and living on the streets of San Francisco.  I’ve been homeless for almost three years now.  I can’t find a job no matter how hard I try.  I have no real friends or family, and no real reason to live. Being homeless has been one very long nightmare for me and I can’t take it anymore.  I’ve been praying to God, asking for help for years, but my prayers have gone unanswered.  I’m sick of praying.  In fact, I’ve given up on prayer.  I often think about ending this God-forsaken life of mine.  Have any advice?

Dear Down and Out:

I know what it feels like to pray to God with great devotion and feel like those prayers have gone unanswered.  I know what it feels like to believe that maybe he’s not even there.

Many, many years ago, before I got “saved” (before I invited Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior) I went through a rough patch when I was in the military.

I wasn’t homeless; however, I was very depressed.  I thought about ending it all on more than one occasion.

Don’t throw in the towel just yet.  I’ve got some advice for you here that is sure to help.  It helped me… in fact… it saved my life… so please pay close attention my friend.

I know you’re sick of praying, but I need you to do something…

Invite Jesus Christ
Into Your Heart

Stay with me buddy… stay with me.  You’re just gonna have to trust me on this.

Here’s a good way to start…

Say to God… “God, I admit that I am a sinner.  I have done many things that don’t please you.  I have lived my life for myself.  I am sorry for sinning and I repent.  I ask you to forgive me.

I believe that your son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross and was raised from the dead to save me from my sins.  You / He did what I could not do for myself.

I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life.  Yes, I give my life to you.  Help me to live my life in a way that pleases you.

I love you, God, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you in heaven. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray.”

If you say that prayer and mean it in your heart (I’m talking… really, really mean it) your life is going to get better… much, much, much better.

Truth is… when you surrender yourself to God and ask him to take complete control of your heart…

Miracles Are Going To
Start Happening In Your Life!

For this is what God has wanted from you all along.

For you to give your life to him.

In the meantime, to help get your life in even further order, take the following steps…

#1. Read the Bible every day and ask God to guide you to a good, Bible-believing church.  There you will grow in God’s Spirit and you will begin to make friends with “good” people.  (This will help alleviate your feelings of hopelessness and depression immensely.)

#2. Start jogging/running 5 miles a day. This will help you to think more clearly. Why?  Because once you’ve been jogging for 30-40 minutes, the brain starts to release chemicals/endorphins that improve both your mood and mental clarity.  NOTE:  In all likelihood, you probably won’t be able run 5 miles when you are just getting started.  That’s okay.  You’ll work your way up to it.  Just get yourself movin’.

#3. Join a gym.  There’s a franchised gym called Planet Fitness in two different sections of San Francisco.  The cost to be a member is only $10/mo.  One way or another you should be able to come up with $10/mo.  Join ASAP.  It’s a good place to exercise, use the bathroom, and shower & shave.

One of the best investments you’ll ever make… as it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Aside from all the facilities you’ll have access to, and the better shape you’ll be in from working out, it’s a great place to meet people and make friends.

#4. How To Get A Job Fast: Go to a local library (public or college) and hop onto one of the many computers that they’ll have. On their computers they are sure to have a FREE phone system called Skype.

You will use this free phone system to make dozens, perhaps even hundreds of calls to small business owners like painters, carpet cleaners, window washers, landscapers, construction companies, etc.

You’ll find hundreds/thousands of them in the “Online Yellow Pages”.  Start making calls to these small companies (ask to speak with the owner) and tell them that you are very interested in being employed by them.

Most of them are probably going to tell you, “Sorry, but we don’t have any job openings right now”.  That’s okay, because at right about that point in the conversation you will state that you are so anxious to do the type of work their company does, that you are willing to work for them for FREE for 1-2 weeks, just so they can give you a “test drive”… to see that you are indeed an honest, hard-working, dependable person who they’d be crazy not to hire.

Take these steps… play your cards right… and you WILL find yourself a good, solid, long-term job that will provide you with a steady income and an apartment or home of your own.

What I’ve mapped out for you, is it going to be an easy road to travel in getting back on your feet?

Probably not.

But stick with it anyway, because you’ve got so much to gain… and virtually nothing to lose.

And remember…

God Is With You…
And He’s Cheering You On!

And so am I.

Sincerely yours,
