Dear Joshua:
Last week we had to put my dog to sleep because he was 17 years old and he was barely able to walk. He was in great pain.
I am so sad. He was my best friend and I’ve had him all of my life. I’m 12 years old and my Sunday school teacher says that dogs aren’t people so they don’t go to heaven.
But I don’t want to think I’ll never see him again. Doesn’t God love the animals too?

Your Sunday school teacher doesn’t know what the heck he / she’s talking about.
Here’s why…
Picture this… you are standing before God in heaven and he is telling and showing you how much he loves you.
God Loves People
… And Animals!!!
As the two of you are chatting things up, you mention to God just how much you loved your dog… and how much you would love to see the little guy. (Something you actually wouldn’t have to do… because God knows everything.)
Anyway… try to imagine God… a God of perfect love saying to you, “I know how much you loved your little dog, but sorry Billy, I don’t allow dogs into heaven.”
That’s Nonsense!
What’s far more likely to happen is from the following story (which I stumbled upon on the internet) titled “Rainbow Bridge.”
Pay close attention here Billy, because this is good stuff…
Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
